WMS Family Message 10-14-19

This past week the 8th Graders had an awesome trip to Washington D.C. They started their journey at the Lincoln Memorial and then explored various treasures in our Nation’s Capital based on group preference with a required stop at the National Archives to explore our Founding Documents. Some groups went to check out the White House while others visited various Smithsonian Museums, including the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the National Museum of Natural History, and the Air and Space Museum. This trip is part of the Civics experience for 8th graders as we work towards the ACPS Student-Centered Goal of helping to build future citizens.

Speaking of citizenship, this week is Digital Citizenship Week. Students have already been experiencing Digital Citizenship lessons this year, but we thought it would be good to share resources for parents too. Common Sense Media provides a Family Engagement Toolkit, which we encourage you to check out to keep the conversations going at home.

Parent Conferences-October 15
This is our last round of school-wide conferences. You can sign up using the link below:
Please note that there is a short dinner break from 6:00-6:30 p.m. During this break the WMS Counselors and Administration will be available in the amphitheater for meetings and informal conversations.
Please remember we encourage family engagement, so if you would like a meeting with a teacher or team prior to conferences or after we can arrange that if you contact the teacher or your child’s counselor directly via email or phone call (Mr. Bloor-Grades 6-A-K and Grade 7, Ms. Crawford-Grade 6-M-Z and Grade 8).

College Funding Workshop-October 21, 5:00-6:00 p.m.
College may seem a long way off, but it is never to early to start planning. We know that the high cost of higher education is a daunting proposition. Parents lie awake at night trying to figure out how to afford sending their children to college and still have enough of their hard-earned money to be able to retire one day. Some families have children attending college next year and others have 12 years to plan; but the fears of tackling these monumental and rising costs are the same. The College Funding Coach® is here to help families figure out HOW to pay for it!

Join us on October 21 in the WMS Amphitheater to here from The College Funding Coach® about your options for paying for college. View more info here: College Funding Workshop at WMS.

Attention 8th Grade Families-Academy and Murray Open Houses
