A Message from Your New Assistant Principal-Dr. Sherica Jones-Lewis

It truly is an honor to be joining your community at such a time of great promise for our students. I especially am pleased to be returning to the southern feeder pattern.  My professional experience includes serving for six years as a math teacher at Yancey Elementary School and five years at Burley Middle School, teaching the sixth grade.

A native of our area, I am from Charlottesville and a graduate of the University of Mary Washington where I obtained my B.S. in English and an M.S. in Elementary Education.  I have a certificate in eTeaching and eLearning, and both an Ed.S. and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Liberty University.  Presently, I live in Madison, Virginia, with my husband and three sons.

My most important personal goal is to actively work with our principal to provide the leadership for Walton students to learn, grow, and achieve.  Parents, teachers, support staff, and administrators all have important roles in helping us to achieve this goal for all students.

As Mr. Walton noted in his note earlier this week, we are hosting two Meet and Greet occasions, for this purpose.  They will be held next Wednesday, July 13th from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., and next Thursday, July 14th between 9 and 11 a.m.  We hope to see you on one of these dates.

It is my heartfelt desire that our students acquire the skills to become productive citizens and to understand and use the power of teamwork, positive focus, growth mindset, and flexible thinking. With a strong family, school, community connection I am confident we will make Walton a world-class place to learn and grow!

Have a restful and rejuvenating summer and please feel free to contact Mr. Walton or me if you have any questions, comments, or would like to discuss the needs of your student or our school.

Best,

Dr. Sherica D. Jones-Lewis

Invitation to Meet and Greets-July 13 (PM) and July 14 (AM)

Dear Walton Community:
I am thrilled to be starting the 2016-2017 school year as your principal and to officially announce that Dr. Sherica Jones-Lewis has been appointed as our Assistant Principal.

Dr. Jones-Lewis has tremendous experience at both the elementary and middle school levels in our school division. She taught at Yancey Elementary School for six years and has been at Burley Middle School the past five years. She is active in several community organizations including the Esmont Community Committee and our division’s own award-winning M-Cubed program, which includes a valued partner in the 100 Black Men of Central Virginia. Dr. Jones-Lewis has a great understanding and relationship with our southern feeder pattern community, a wonderful complement to her excellent instructional background and leadership.

This is an amazing place for students because of the excellent work that our entire school community does for our children. Our future success will come from the contributions all of us make to our school. From those who teach our students to those who parent them to those who volunteer their time and effort, all of you make a positive difference for the Walton community.  We need to continue to hear your voices about how to move our excellent work forward for all students.

To that end, I invite you to attend one of two ” Principal Meet and Greet” events on Wednesday, July 13 and Thursday, July 14 in the WMS Cafeteria. Our Wednesday conversation will be from 4-6 in the afternoon and on Friday, from 9-11 in the morning. Additionally, if you would like to schedule a 20-minute meeting with me and Dr. Jones-Lewis, beginning on July 13, please call Frances Wood in the WMS office at 977-5615. We will work to accommodate your schedule.

I welcome your feedback, questions and/or concerns and I look forward to meeting you soon!

Sincerely,
Josh Walton
Principal
